Benue Governor Rebuts Misinformation by Senator Moro on Local Government Election

Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, has responded to allegations made by Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro regarding the recently concluded local government elections in the state. According to Governor Alia, the senator misinformed the Senate, mischaracterizing the elections as fraudulent and discrediting the democratic process.

In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, Alia made it clear that the local government elections were conducted in line with democratic principles and electoral laws. This statement was issued to the News Agency of Nigeria in Makurdi, the state capital.

Moro, while addressing the Senate, claimed that the election was a “charade” and called for the suspension of federal allocations to Benue’s local councils. However, Governor Alia dismissed these claims, describing them as rooted in personal grievances rather than genuine concern for the democratic process.

“The elections, overseen by the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC), were widely regarded as credible and peaceful,” Alia emphasized. He accused Moro and his colleagues of consistently seeking to undermine the current administration, serving their own agenda rather than addressing the needs of their constituents.

Alia further criticized Moro for presenting misleading video evidence in the Senate, calling it a “poorly orchestrated attempt” to tarnish the state government’s reputation. He urged the senator and other politicians from Benue to reflect on their responsibilities and consider the impact their actions have on their constituents.

“Rebuilding trust with their people will require sincere apologies and a shift towards serving, rather than sabotaging, the state’s progress,” Alia concluded.
