The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has achieved a remarkable feat, surpassing its annual revenue target by collecting N5.7 trillion as of Tuesday, 12 November 2024. This milestone was announced by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, during the 2024 Comptroller-General of Customs Conference held in Abuja.

Adeniyi shared the positive news with conference attendees, emphasizing that the NCS had not only met but exceeded its 2024 target of N5.07 trillion. By 13:10 Hrs on the 12th of November, the NCS had successfully collected N5.079 trillion, a significant achievement with over a month left in the fiscal year. Adeniyi expressed confidence in the NCS’s continued success, citing their strategic efforts and collaborative approach that have contributed to these impressive results.

The Customs leader also discussed the service’s ongoing initiatives, such as the Authorised Economic Operators program, which has already selected six beneficiaries. Furthermore, 21 requests have been processed under the advance ruling program, aimed at accelerating customs decision-making on imports and exports before they even arrive at the ports.

Adeniyi also highlighted progress in trade facilitation, noting that the NCS’s time release study is making strides toward enabling 24-hour cargo clearance and reducing dwell time at the ports. The ongoing Operation Whirlwind, a joint effort to combat fuel smuggling, was also praised for its significant impact.

With these developments, the Nigeria Customs Service continues to play a crucial role in the country’s economic growth and security.
