The Delta State House of Assembly has successfully passed the Electricity Power Sector Bill, 2024, into law, marking a significant step toward improving the state’s power supply. The bill was fast-tracked and passed on Wednesday after its third reading, presided over by Speaker Dennis Guwor. The swift passage of the bill aims to address long-standing power supply challenges in Delta State.

During the plenary session, the House Majority Leader, Emeka Nwaobi, moved a motion to suspend the Assembly’s standing rules to allow for the third reading and immediate passage of the bill. The motion, seconded by PDP member Frank Esenwah from Oshimili North Constituency, was unanimously adopted following a voice vote by the Speaker.

The bill’s passage is expected to have a transformative impact on Delta State’s electricity supply, which in turn will help stimulate economic activities and improve the standard of living for its residents. Speaker Dennis Guwor expressed his satisfaction with the development, highlighting that once signed into law by the Governor, the bill would pave the way for better electricity access and create opportunities for economic growth across the state.

“I believe it will promote living standards and enhance the overall well-being of the people of Delta State,” Speaker Guwor remarked after the passage of the bill.
