EFCC Summons Foreign Groom and Guests Over Naira Spraying at Kano Wedding

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has summoned Ibrahim Mohammad, a Nigerien national, and other guests after a viral video surfaced showing naira notes being sprayed at his wedding in Kano. The incident has sparked public outrage and is now part of the EFCC’s ongoing effort to combat currency abuse in the country.

Initially, many reports misidentified the wedding as that of Fauziya Danjuma Goje, the daughter of Senator Danjuma Goje. However, after thorough investigation, the EFCC clarified that the naira-spraying event actually took place at the wedding of Amina Babagana Zannah, the daughter of Hajara Seidu Haruna, the CEO of Hafsat Jewellery Enterprise. Haruna confirmed that both naira and dollar bills were sprayed at the ceremony by the groom’s family, who are from Niger Republic.

In a statement, EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to upholding currency regulations and holding accountable anyone, regardless of their background or nationality, who violates these rules. The EFCC also encouraged the public to stay alert and assured that no false accusations would sway their efforts to deliver justice.

As part of the investigation, the EFCC has invited Mohammad and other individuals involved to appear at its headquarters in Abuja for further questioning.
