Dosu Joseph, the former goalkeeper of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, narrowly escaped death in a serious car accident in the Ojodu Berger area of Lagos. The incident occurred while he was at a filling station on October 2, 2024, as he attempted to refuel his vehicle. In a Facebook post, the 51-year-old shared alarming footage from the scene, showcasing his Ford crushed beneath a heavy-duty truck.

Joseph described the harrowing details of the crash, explaining that a Mack truck, unable to stop, veered off the road and collided with his car. The impact left his vehicle in a state of ruin. “My friend SM and I were at Enyo filling station after Ojodu Berger bus stop, getting fuel when this fully loaded truck with registration number LND 470 XXX crashed into my car, rendering it unrepairable. Thank God for life,” he captioned the video.

Notably, Dosu Joseph is remembered for his role as the goalkeeper for Nigeria’s historic gold medal-winning team at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. This latest incident echoes a traumatic experience he faced back in 1997, shortly after his Olympic success. During that previous accident, he nearly suffered paralysis at the age of 23, forcing him to end his budding football career.

Today, Joseph is the head coach of Joseph Dosu Football Club in Lagos, continuing to make an impact in the sport he loves.
