Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra has declared a landmark initiative providing free and compulsory education for public senior secondary students as part of his Solution-Free Education Policy. The announcement was made during a meeting with principals and head teachers in Awka, highlighting the government’s commitment to enhancing educational access across the state.

On September 21, 2023, Governor Soludo initiated a similar program that ensured free education from nursery through junior secondary levels. Now, starting next week, public senior secondary students will also benefit from this policy. While the governor noted that a nominal tuition fee of ₦5,000 will still apply, he emphasized that the goal is to make education accessible to all children in Anambra.

In his remarks, Soludo stressed that this initiative not only aims to improve access to education but also to foster the overall development of students, nurturing their talents and abilities. He reassured educators and school leaders that, despite facing resource constraints, his administration remains dedicated to fulfilling its educational mandates.

To further support families, Soludo instructed that any senior secondary students who have already paid the ₦5,000 tuition fee for the current term will receive a refund. This step reflects the administration’s focus on human capital development and its commitment to the welfare of students and their families.

Additionally, the governor announced that the implementation of a ₦70,000 minimum wage will commence in October, underscoring the government’s broader efforts to enhance living standards for both workers and students in Anambra. “We are dedicated to investing in our people, and these initiatives—along with the new minimum wage—underscore our commitment,” he stated, highlighting the positive impact these measures will have on the community.
