Governor Bala Mohammed Calls on Tinubu to Reevaluate Tax Reforms and Avoid Regional Polarization

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reconsider proposed tax reforms that could deepen regional divisions in Nigeria. Speaking at the opening of the State Executive Council meeting at the Government House, Governor Mohammed stressed the importance of crafting policies that foster unity and fairness across the country.

The governor expressed concern over the ongoing discussions on the national tax reform, fearing that it might overlook the economic needs and interests of northern Nigeria. “Nigeria must remain united and avoid implementing policies that could marginalize any particular region,” Governor Mohammed warned.

He urged President Tinubu to reject any reforms that could disadvantage specific regions, reinforcing his commitment to policies that benefit all Nigerians. In his address to the cabinet, the governor also renewed his focus on the “My Bauchi Project” blueprint, emphasizing the need for further progress under his leadership.

Highlighting the North’s economic potential, Governor Mohammed pointed to agriculture and mineral resources as key drivers of regional development. He stressed the importance of self-sufficiency, stating, “Bauchi and other northern states are well-resourced to sustain ourselves—whether through agriculture, minerals, or other sectors.”

The meeting continued behind closed doors after the governor’s speech, with all council members present to discuss these pressing matters.
