Gunmen Ambush and Kill Ogun Councilorship Candidate

In a tragic incident that has sent shockwaves through Ogun State, suspected gunmen claimed the life of Adeyinka Adeleke, a councilorship candidate, in the Jide Jones area of Abeokuta South Local Government on Saturday afternoon. Adeleke was representing the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Ward 15 in the upcoming local government elections scheduled for November 16.
Witnesses report that the assailants arrived in a tinted vehicle and opened fire indiscriminately. According to an insider, the gunmen targeted Adeleke, shooting him before leaving him in a pool of blood.
A disturbing video that emerged online captured the horrifying scene, showing Adeleke’s lifeless body as bystanders expressed their grief. Eyewitness accounts indicate that the incident sparked chaos in the neighborhood, with residents rushing to safety amidst the commotion.

One anonymous source detailed the harrowing event, stating, “The All Progressives Congress councilorship candidate for Ibara Ward 15, Adeyinka Adeleke, was killed today. The gunmen came in a tinted car, shot him, and even hit him with stones to ensure he was dead. People in the area are panicking and locking their shops.”
Another source described how the attackers stepped out of their vehicle, approached Adeleke, and shot him at close range before further assaulting him. The source noted, “The killing happened around 2 PM; it took everyone by surprise. We don’t know if this is a cult-related attack. The tension is palpable here; it’s incredibly sad.”
A senior police officer confirmed the occurrence, mentioning that Adeleke’s family had taken his body for burial. “Yes, the incident happened. His family decided to take his body for burial,” the police source stated.
As of now, Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer Omolola Odutola has not responded to inquiries regarding the situation.
