The Federal Government of Nigeria, via the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and the Ministry of Education, has rolled out the Tertiary Institutions Staff Support Fund (TISSF) a zero-interest loan scheme for confirmed academic and non-academic staff in public tertiary institutions.
Under the scheme, eligible staff can access up to ₦10 million, capped at 33.3% of their gross annual salary, repayable over five years. A 12-month moratorium applies before repayment begins.
Requirements: Who’s Eligible
To apply, you must be a full-time, confirmed staff member at a federal university, polytechnic, or college of education — or one of the designated state institutions. You also need at least five years to retirement, and must belong to a recognized staff association (e.g., ASUU, SSANU, NASU).
What Documents You Need
When applying on the official portal (https://tissf.education.gov.ng), you’ll be asked to provide several details and files: your personal info (name, date of birth, contact), employment data (institution, staff type), a facial image (for identity verification), and your residential address. Financial information is also required: NIN, BVN, bank account number, most recent six-month bank statements, your monthly take-home pay, and how much loan you want. You also need to upload your institution ID card and proof of membership in a staff union.
How to Apply
- Go to the TISSF portal: https://tissf.education.gov.ng
- Register an account and fill in your personal and employment information.
- Upload the required documents: ID card, bank statements, proof of union membership, facial image, etc.
- Enter your financial data (BVN, NIN, salary, desired loan amount) and choose a repayment plan.
- Grant location access for verification, then submit the form and click “Proceed to vetting.”
- After vetting, successful applicants will receive their letter of offer via email from the Bank of Industry, which is managing disbursement.
What the Loan Can Be Used For
The TISSF loan is flexible. You can use it for medical needs, housing (rent or home improvements), transport (bikes, EVs, etc.), SME or agricultural projects, or academic advancement (certifications, postgraduate studies).
Important Notes
- The loan is 0% interest, designed specifically to relieve financial stress for tertiary institution staff and improve professional growth.
- Repayment will be deducted monthly from your salary via your institution’s bursary department.
- Open applications have already drawn thousands of submissions, and the portal is live at the Bank of Industry’s site (tissf.boi.ng).
- Watch your email after applying; BOI will send your offer letter there.
