The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has launched an extensive effort to track federal projects worth N13.9 billion across Niger State. As part of phase 7 of its Constituency and Executive Projects Tracking initiative, the commission aims to ensure the proper execution of 80 projects covering education, health, agriculture, water resources, power, and empowerment.

During a briefing in Minna on Thursday, ICPC Tracker Mallam Sai’du Yahaya detailed the scope of the exercise, highlighting its purpose to detect fraud, prevent collusion among contractors, and recover funds misused in delivering substandard work. The tracking exercise includes projects initiated between 2022 and 2023, ensuring they meet quality and contractual specifications.

To bolster its efforts, the ICPC is working with the Nigeria Institute of Quality Surveyors, which will assess project quality and hold contractors accountable for lapses. The initiative spans all three senatorial zones in Niger State and is part of a broader nationwide tracking effort.

This phase covers 1,500 projects valued at N610 billion in 22 states, including Kwara, Kogi, Kano, Lagos, and Rivers. Among the projects being monitored are those managed by key agencies such as the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), the National Primary Health Care Development Authority (NPHCDA), the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), and Ecological Funds.

The ICPC’s commitment to transparency and accountability aims to ensure federal investments genuinely benefit communities while deterring financial mismanagement.
