Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the appointment of Yechiel Leiter, a U.S.-born diplomat, as Israel’s new ambassador to the United States. Netanyahu praised Leiter’s skills, highlighting his deep understanding of American culture and politics.

Leiter, who has previously served as chief of staff in the finance ministry, takes on the role shortly after Donald Trump’s election to a second term as U.S. president, an outcome celebrated by many in Israel for Trump’s unwavering support of the country.

Before his appointment, Leiter also held notable positions, including deputy director general at the Education Ministry and acting chairman of the Israel Ports Company. His son tragically lost his life during the Gaza war last year while serving in the Israeli military.

Leiter’s appointment has received widespread support, including from Yisrael Ganz, the head of the Yesha Council, an organization representing Jewish settlements in the West Bank. Ganz lauded Leiter as a significant figure in advocating for the Israeli perspective on Judea and Samaria, terms used by many Israelis for the West Bank.
