Aston Villa has officially confirmed that striker Jhon Durán has signed a new contract, ensuring his stay at the club until 2030. The 20-year-old forward has made a significant impact this season, netting six goals, including a pivotal strike that secured a thrilling victory over Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday.

In a statement released on Monday, the club expressed its excitement: “Aston Villa are delighted to announce that Jhon Durán has signed a new contract with the club until 2030. The 20-year-old has been in sparkling form at the start of this season, scoring six times, including the only goal on Wednesday night which sealed a famous win over German giants Bayern Munich in the Champions League.”

Durán’s impressive displays have also seen him score key goals in Premier League matches against West Ham, Leicester City, and Everton, with the latter showcasing a stunning long-range effort.

Since joining Aston Villa from Chicago Fire in January 2023, the Colombian international has quickly established himself as a crucial member of the team.

Emerging as one of the Premier League’s most exciting talents, manager Unai Emery believes Durán has the potential to become a £100 million player. A report from The Telegraph in September highlighted his effectiveness, noting that he has scored eight goals as a substitute in the Premier League, including a stunning 30-yard winner against Everton last month.

This summer, over 30 clubs across Europe, including Chelsea, West Ham, AC Milan, and Sporting, expressed interest in signing Durán. However, Emery was resolute in his decision to retain the young forward.

Durán’s journey from Medellín, Colombia, to the Premier League is nothing short of remarkable. Discovered by Chicago Fire’s technical director, Sebastian Pelzer, in 2020, Durán quickly gained attention for his impressive physical attributes and incredible speed, leading to his transfer to Major League Soccer for $2 million.
