Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has announced a comprehensive initiative to combat human trafficking and sexual and gender-based violence in the region. This declaration came during a meeting with the State Taskforce Committee, chaired by Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Fadila Dikko, at his office on Thursday.

Governor Radda praised the task force for its successful efforts in rehabilitating victims and addressing child abuse and trafficking issues within the state. He stressed the importance of developing more effective strategies to tackle the increasing incidents of violence, especially sexual abuse against women.

“We must implement stronger measures to liberate Katsina State from all forms of violence and child abuse,” he stated. The governor expressed his administration’s commitment to providing the necessary resources for the task force to achieve its objectives.

The commissioner reported several accomplishments of the task force, which include medical outreach programs, distributing school bags to 80 human trafficking victims, offering skills acquisition training to 30 individuals, and providing psychological support to survivors. She also highlighted the task force’s public awareness campaigns through radio broadcasts and unveiled plans to offer soft loans to over 100 youths, along with scholarships for students in the state. However, she noted that inadequate funding poses a significant obstacle to the task force’s efforts.

In late September 2024, Governor Radda reiterated his commitment to investing in critical infrastructure and fostering entrepreneurship and innovation, aiming to elevate the state’s development. This vision was articulated at the Award/Dinner Night celebrating the 37th anniversary of the state’s creation, held at the Presidential Banquet Hall in Katsina.
