Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, has awarded N100,000 Livelihood Support Grants to 8,000 youths and women across the state. The initiative, which aims to bolster both new and existing businesses, was launched during a ceremony at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Lokoja, the state capital.

The beneficiaries, hailing from all 21 Local Government Areas, received the financial support as part of Ododo’s ongoing effort to enhance the economic well-being of Kogi’s vulnerable populations. In a statement made through his deputy, Joel Oyibo, Ododo emphasized that the grants would have a lasting impact on the lives of recipients, empowering them to improve their livelihoods and contribute to the state’s economic vibrancy.

The program was executed in collaboration with the World Bank under the Kogi State Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (CARES). Governor Ododo highlighted that the support aims to cushion the financial challenges faced by vulnerable individuals and households, especially in areas of education, health, and small-scale business development.

“This initiative is more than just financial support; it’s about creating opportunities,” Ododo stated. “It allows beneficiaries to meet basic needs, pursue education, and participate more fully in the state’s growing economy. I encourage all recipients to maximize this opportunity to improve their lives and that of their families.”

Mrs. Aishat Omade, the Coordinator and CEO of the Kogi State Social Investment Program Agency, stressed the inclusivity of the program, ensuring that all 21 LGAs were represented. Similarly, Mr. Kehinde Olorunmosunle, the Head of the Delivery Platform State Cash Transfer Unit, noted that the grants would help lay the foundation for a brighter future, equipping Kogi youths and women with skills and knowledge for long-term success.
