LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Evacuates Patients as Fire Engulfs Facility

Property worth millions of naira was destroyed in the early hours of Saturday at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, following a fire outbreak. The incident, which occurred around 5 a.m. in the paediatric consultant’s office, severely damaged electronic gadgets, engines, books, office equipment, and roofing materials.
According to reports, the fire is suspected to have started from an electrical spark, forcing the hospital to evacuate 16 patients from the affected ward as a safety precaution.

In a statement issued on Saturday by Ogunleye Omotayo, the hospital’s Public Relations Officer, it was confirmed that no lives were lost. The statement read: “The management of the institution wishes to state that the fire incident that occurred early this morning was put out without any remarkable damage to the hospital.”
Omotayo further emphasized that normalcy has returned to the facility: “Light has been restored, and work activities have resumed in the section where the fire incident took place. The management appreciates the swift intervention of staff, the state Fire Service, and all well-wishers for their support.”
While the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, the hospital management has assured the public that there is no cause for alarm and encouraged staff and patients to continue their daily activities without fear.
