Maulud Tragedy: Death Toll Rises to 40 in Kaduna Road Accident

The death toll from the tragic Kaduna road accident that occurred on Sunday, September 16, 2024, involving Muslim worshippers has climbed to 40, according to updated reports. Most of the victims, including children, were en route to Saminaka for the Eid-el-Maulud celebration when their J5 bus collided with an oncoming truck near Lere Town.
Initial Reports and Rising Casualties
Initially, the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency reported 36 fatalities, but Ahmad Dayyabu, the organizer of the event, confirmed that four more victims had succumbed to their injuries in the hospital, raising the death toll to 40.
Governor’s Response and Medical Assistance
Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives. In his statement, he directed the state’s commissioner of health to ensure that the surviving victims receive comprehensive medical attention. Additionally, the governor pledged to offer support to the families of the deceased.
Burial of the Victims
Following Islamic burial rites, the bodies of the deceased were laid to rest in Lere Local Government Area.
