A militant group known as the Niger Delta ‘Rothweliers of Bakassi Peninsular’ has issued a set of demands to President Bola Tinubu’s administration, warning of potential destructive attacks on the nation’s oil and gas infrastructure if their concerns are not addressed. The group has also threatened to halt business transactions along the border, escalating tensions in the region.

In a statement signed by General Godspower (aka Border King), General Tingass, and Black General (aka Obong Ekpe), the group expressed their grievances and frustrations, accusing the government of depriving them of their rights and neglecting their welfare. According to them, the transfer of Nigerian properties in Bakassi to Cameroon following the 2006 ICJ ruling has severely impacted the community, leaving residents in dire conditions.

The militants claim that the government’s corruption and self-serving interests have allowed some individuals to monopolize the country’s crude oil, selling it to foreign nations while the local population suffers from pollution, health crises, and poor educational infrastructure. The group’s statement, obtained by SaharaReporters, emphasized their resolve to take action if the government continues to ignore their plight.

“We are not pirates or slaves; we are men of integrity. The Nigerian government has used its authority to drag us through the mud, selling our land and leaving us with nothing. If these issues are not resolved quickly, we will launch attacks on oil installations, and no business will proceed at the border,” the statement warned.

They further criticized the ineffectiveness of the amnesty program, which they claim only benefits a select few, leaving many in the Bakassi community to suffer in poverty and neglect. The militants called for equitable distribution of resources and tangible monthly support for each member of the Rothweliers to restore balance and peace in the region.

The group concluded with a stern message to the government, warning that empty promises and delays will no longer be tolerated, as future generations are ready to continue the fight for their freedom.
