Fola David-Tolaram, a Nigerian doctor and artist, has officially earned a Guinness World Record for creating the largest drawing by an individual. Measuring an impressive 1,004.7 m² (10,814.5 ft²), David-Tolaram’s artwork, titled The Unity of Diversity, was unveiled at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, celebrating Nigeria’s vibrant cultural landscape.

At just 31 years old, David-Tolaram’s artistic journey spans a decade of dedication and passion. His record-breaking piece portrays a detailed map of Nigeria, emphasizing the country’s diverse traditions and multicultural identity. “The goal was to create something that captures the rich cultural tapestry of Nigeria,” he shared. “It’s a tribute to our unity in diversity.”

To bring this ambitious vision to life, the artist worked with a massive 1,360 m² canvas, taking two days to assemble it. Over six days, he meticulously applied waterproof markers, adapting his techniques as he progressed. The artist’s efforts were met with cheers from thousands of spectators who filled the 5,000-seat stadium, creating an electrifying atmosphere.

David-Tolaram reflected on the emotional journey of creating such a monumental work, admitting that he felt both nervous and excited as he began. “Standing in the center of the canvas, I was overwhelmed with fear,” he recalled. “But as soon as I started, I felt confident that I could achieve it.”

Upon receiving the Guinness World Records title, David-Tolaram expressed his pride and gratitude, calling the achievement “absolutely unbelievable.” “It’s an honor to be recognized in this way,” he said. “I feel Officially Amazing.”
