Obaseki’s School Closure: A Dangerous Political Game at the Expense of Edo’s Children

The APC New Media Directorate urges the people of Edo State to be wary of Governor Godwin Obaseki’s latest political move. His abrupt closure of schools, using the rise in fuel prices as a justification, is nothing more than a ploy to create confusion and instability in the state.
The governor’s claim that fuel prices are the reason for shutting down schools is misleading and deceptive. Since the removal of fuel subsidies, prices are dictated by market forces, beyond the control of the federal government. Obaseki is fully aware of this but has chosen to manipulate the situation, playing politics with the future of our children.
This reckless decision to close schools indefinitely is not only unnecessary but dangerous. At a time when education is critical for our youth, Obaseki is denying them the opportunity to learn for the sake of political gain. His actions signal a descent into chaos, as the governor seeks to position himself as a “man of the people” despite the glaring failures of his administration.
Despite receiving over ₦17 billion monthly in revenue, Obaseki has failed to construct even a single new school during his tenure. Schools established under the “Red Roof Revolution” by Comrade Adams Oshiomhole have been neglected, lacking basic facilities such as teachers, desks, and essential infrastructure.
Obaseki’s hypocrisy is evident. He employed teachers on temporary contracts, promising them permanent positions only if his ally, Asue Ighodalo, won the election. Can a leader who gambles with educators’ livelihoods truly claim to care about the state’s education?
His recent actions are nothing more than a calculated attempt to manipulate public opinion, using the education system as a tool to pit the people of Edo against the APC. The tactic is simple: create confusion, distract from his administration’s massive failures, and use the future of Edo’s children as leverage.
The APC New Media Directorate condemns this reckless move in the strongest possible terms. Governor Obaseki’s political games threaten the future of Edo State. The people deserve better, and our children deserve a governor who prioritizes their education over personal political survival.
