Tragedy struck on Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos on Monday when a deadly accident claimed the life of one individual and left eight others seriously injured. The crash involved two Mazda commercial buses, which collided head-on near Ilaje while heading towards Iyana-Oworonsoki.

According to Adebayo Taofiq, a spokesman for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the accident occurred due to reckless driving, as both buses engaged in a dangerous high-speed chase from Adeniji Adele. Taofiq highlighted that the incident serves as “a stark reminder of the catastrophic consequences of irresponsible driving practices.”

Injuries and Emergency Response

The eight injured passengers sustained severe fractures and were swiftly transported to Gbagada General Hospital for urgent medical treatment. LASTMA extended condolences to the family of the deceased and expressed wishes for the full recovery of the injured victims.

Second Accident on Third Mainland Bridge

In a related incident, another accident occurred later that day when a Honda CRV (AKD 743 HV) overturned near the UNILAG waterfront, also heading towards Iyana-Oworonsoki. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in this crash, which was attributed to excessive speeding.
