The Osun State Security Network Agency, widely known as Amotekun Corps, has successfully apprehended a 50-year-old man, Najeemdeen Shola Bankole Adeyemi, in connection with an attempted kidnapping. Adeyemi allegedly targeted Rodiat Adenike AbdulRazak, whom he met on Facebook.

During a press conference at the agency’s headquarters in Osogbo on Monday, Commander Isaac Omoyele outlined the suspect’s deceitful tactics. Operating from Lagos, Adeyemi lured Rodiat to a local restaurant, where he stealthily stole her Android phone before fleeing the scene.

“On September 15, 2024, at approximately 2:45 PM, Rodiat Adenike Abdul Razak, originally from Osogbo, reported that a man she met on Facebook promised to visit her from Lagos. Upon his arrival, Najeemdeen Shola Bankole Adeyemi tricked her into coming to a nearby restaurant, where he snatched her phone and escaped,” Commander Omoyele explained.

Following Rodiat’s report, Amotekun operatives traced Adeyemi back to Osogbo, where he was arrested while attempting to steal another phone from a different victim. During interrogation, he admitted to using a fake Facebook account to lure unsuspecting targets.

In light of this incident, Omoyele urged young women to exercise caution when engaging with strangers on social media, emphasizing that Adeyemi would be handed over to the Nigeria Police for prosecution.

In addition to Adeyemi’s arrest, 30-year-old Elizabeth Ako was detained for counterfeiting currency. She was caught in the Sabo area of Ilesa while attempting to use counterfeit N1,000 notes to purchase goods.

“On September 16, 2024, at around 9:45 AM, Elizabeth Ako was apprehended at Sabo Market in Ilesa while trying to buy goods with fake currency. During questioning, she admitted to participating in this illegal activity for some time and revealed that she received the counterfeit money from a woman named Elizabeth, who had sent it from Abuja,” Omoyele stated.

Additional arrests include 37-year-old Olaniyan Afeez, known for motorcycle theft and violent offenses, and 19-year-old Olatinwo Quy, who was caught stealing motorcycles in Apomu. Other suspects apprehended include 29-year-old Tajudeen Riliwan, an ex-convict charged with stealing from a mosque in Osogbo, and 20-year-old Laisi Kazeem, who had been repeatedly stealing transformer cables in Ila-Odo town. Furthermore, two ex-convicts, 45-year-old Babatunde Aderemi and Olaniyan Afeez, were arrested for theft, while 19-year-old Adegboye Glory and 30-year-old Bidemi Adebayo were detained for burglary and theft in the Iwo local government area.
