The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT) has called on its members to cooperate with the party’s disciplinary and reconciliation committees to address internal conflicts. BoT Chairman, Adolphus Wabara, stressed the importance of members submitting to these committees when summoned, emphasizing the need to resolve ongoing issues within the party.

Speaking during a BoT meeting held in Abuja, Wabara highlighted discrepancies in the recent state congresses conducted by the party. He urged the PDP’s National Working Committee to address the concerns raised, including reports that congresses in some states were not conducted in line with party guidelines, and in certain cases, did not take place as scheduled.

“The party is supreme,” Wabara stated, urging members to comply with committee calls. “We must ensure that the ruling party does not turn Nigeria into a one-party state.” He emphasized the need for unity and transparency, warning that the internal conflict stemming from the 2023 elections, which intensified after Iyorchia Ayu’s removal and Damagum’s appointment as acting National Chairman, must be resolved for the party to move forward.

Wabara also expressed concern over the crisis-ridden state congresses held in August and September, calling for immediate resolution of discrepancies. “Any deviation from PDP guidelines must be corrected, and where congresses did not occur, new dates should be scheduled to give all party members a fair chance to participate in the democratic process,” he added.

He praised the efforts of committees led by Oyinlola and Ikimi, emphasizing the need for their continued work to ensure peace and unity within the PDP. Wabara reminded members that “a house divided cannot stand” and called on the party to resolve its issues with diplomacy and patience, reaffirming the BoT’s commitment to supporting these efforts.

Acting National Chairman Damagum also spoke during the meeting, thanking the BoT for its dedication to the party despite the challenging situation in Nigeria. He acknowledged the difficulties but reaffirmed his belief in the importance of addressing party matters for the PDP’s future.
