State governors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have called on President Bola Tinubu to revisit his administration’s economic strategies to alleviate the widespread hardship currently affecting Nigerians. This appeal came through a communiqué issued on Saturday at the conclusion of their two-day meeting in Jos, Plateau State.

Speaking on behalf of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Senator Bala Mohammed, the Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the Forum, emphasized the need for urgent reforms to address the nation’s economic challenges. The communiqué stated, “The Forum empathizes with Nigerians who are groaning under the oppressive economic hardship foisted on the nation by the policies and decisions of the APC-led Federal Government. The Forum calls on the President to urgently review both macroeconomic and fiscal policies that will address the welfare and well-being of Nigerians.”

Commitment to Alleviating Hardship
The PDP governors reassured Nigerians of their dedication to mitigating economic challenges through progressive policies. They pledged to “aggressively pursue programs that will reduce hardship and ensure progress and development.”

Held at the Plateau State Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos, the meeting was attended by key organs of the party, including the National Working Committee (NWC), Board of Trustees (BOT), National Assembly caucus, and former governors and ministers. The leaders also discussed unity within the PDP, pledging to address internal divisions while fostering cohesion.

Concerns Over Election Conduct and National Issues
The Forum expressed dissatisfaction with the conduct of the recent Edo Governorship elections, alleging manipulation by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in favor of the APC candidate. The governors urged the judiciary to safeguard democratic principles and called on the National Assembly to review electoral laws to prevent further manipulation.

In addition, the governors voiced concerns about Nigeria’s rising debt profile and urged lawmakers to critically evaluate proposed bills to ensure fairness and equitable development across the nation.

Sympathy for National Tragedies
The Forum commiserated with the victims of the Katako Market fire in Plateau State and the tanker explosion in Jigawa State, which caused significant loss of lives and property. The governors also extended their condolences to their colleague, Governor Eno Bassey, following the death of his wife, and called for unity and support during this difficult time.

Appreciation for Plateau State Hospitality
The meeting concluded with praise for Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, whose administration was lauded for its transformative efforts in social services, tourism, and transportation. The governors reaffirmed their commitment to regaining the PDP’s dominance in Nigeria’s political landscape by 2027.

Participants included governors Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Agbu Kefas (Taraba), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), and Dauda Lawal (Zamfara). The leaders collectively called for sustained efforts to strengthen the PDP’s platform as a beacon of hope for Nigerians.
