Police in Ogun State have arrested Shedrack Olawale Olayemi, a 33-year-old man wanted for armed robbery and rape, following a tip-off that led to his capture in Ijebu-Ode. Olayemi had been on the run since July after allegedly targeting female students from Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun.

According to a statement by the Ogun State police command spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, the suspect was apprehended by the Igbeba Division of the Ijebu-Ode police following intelligence that he was hiding near the university area, trying to blend in with locals. His identity was confirmed, and swift police action led to his arrest.

The police report revealed that Olayemi was the prime suspect in a July 21 incident where he and an accomplice broke into a female residence at Royal Villa near the university. The duo allegedly stole valuable items, including laptops, iPhones, sports wristwatches, and cash, before committing sexual assault on one of the students. Olayemi had been evading authorities since then.

The suspect is now in custody at the Igbeba police station, where an investigation has begun. He will soon be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further questioning and prosecution. The Ogun State Police Commissioner, CP Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha, has called for the arrest of Olayemi’s accomplices and urged the Ijagun community to provide helpful information in tracking down the remaining members of the criminal gang.
