Rodri Claims Ronaldo Lacks Natural Talent, Sides with Messi as the Greatest Ever

Recent interview with the Spanish TV show *El Hormiguero*, Manchester City midfielder Rodri ignited controversy by claiming that Cristiano Ronaldo lacks the innate talent of his long-time rival, Lionel Messi. Reflecting on the ongoing debate about who is the greatest player of all time, Rodri made his strong preference for Messi clear, while offering a pointed critique of Ronaldo’s abilities.
Rodri, who is currently recovering from knee surgery, stated, “Lionel Messi is the greatest player of all time, without any doubt.” He went on to acknowledge Ronaldo’s impressive career but emphasized that, in his view, the Portuguese star managed to reach the same heights as Messi without possessing the same level of natural talent.
“For those of us who have played against them, the difference is evident,” Rodri added. The Spanish midfielder also shared his personal experience of facing both football icons, revealing the different challenges they presented on the pitch. “With Cristiano, we didn’t want him to step into the box because he was lethal there. But with Messi, the danger was everywhere on the pitch.”

The discussion has reignited the age-old rivalry between Messi and Ronaldo, with supporters of both players passionately defending their favorite.
During the interview, Rodri also reflected on his recent Ballon d’Or win, where he triumphed over Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior. Recalling the moments leading up to the award ceremony, Rodri revealed that there were rumors circulating about Vinicius’ potential victory, leaving him feeling uncertain. “But just before arriving in Paris, many people started congratulating me,” he shared. Despite his initial lack of optimism, Rodri’s father urged him to prepare a speech, ensuring that he was ready for the moment.
