Shehu Sani Calls for N100,000 Allowance for Female NYSC Members, Highlighting Extra Challenges

Published

Shehu Sani, former Senator of Kaduna Central, has urged the Nigerian government to raise the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) allowance for female members to N100,000. His call follows the recent announcement of an allowance increase for all Corps members to N77,000, which will take effect from July 2024.

Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), Sani expressed his belief that female Corps members deserve a higher allowance, given the additional difficulties they often face during their service year. “The increase in the allowance of the Youth Corpers to 77k is commendable. But those of the Female Corpers should have been jerked up to 100k since they suffer more,” he stated.

The Federal Government confirmed that the new NYSC allowance aligns with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024. Caroline Embu, Acting Director of Information and Public Relations for NYSC, released a statement confirming the change, which was also highlighted in an official letter from the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission, signed by Chairman Ekpo Nta on September 25, 2024.
