Vice President Kashim Shettima led a delegation of top government officials and All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders on Tuesday for the inauguration of Senator Monday Okpebholo as Edo State’s fifth democratically elected governor. The ceremony, held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, marked the beginning of a new era for the state under Okpebholo’s leadership.

Joining Shettima were prominent APC governors, including Lagos State’s Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Ogun State’s Dapo Abiodun, Imo State’s Hope Uzodinma, and Sokoto State’s Ahmad Aliyu. The event also saw the presence of APC National Chairman Dr. Umar Ganduje and former Edo governor and now Senator Adams Oshiomhole, highlighting the party’s show of unity and support for Okpebholo.

Amidst a significant crowd and tight security, Okpebholo took the oath of office at exactly 1:00 p.m. The Chief Judge of Edo State, Justice Daniel Okungbowa, administered the oath, officially marking Okpebholo’s assumption of office. The newly sworn-in governor was accompanied by his two daughters, underscoring the personal significance of the moment.

In a related ceremony, Dennis Idahosa, who will serve as Deputy Governor, took his oath alongside his wife. Following his inauguration, Okpebholo inspected a guard of honor and presided over a parade by officers from the Nigeria Police Force, signifying his first official act as governor.

The inauguration ceremony reflects both a new beginning for Edo State and the APC’s ongoing commitment to leadership in the region.
