Manchester United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, reassures fans that there is no need for concern following a rocky start to the season. As the team gears up for crucial matches against Porto and Aston Villa, sources within the club have confirmed to BBC Sport that it’s business as usual. Despite a disheartening 3-0 defeat to Tottenham leaving the team in 13th place, Ten Hag remains optimistic about the potential for success this season.

“Nothing is easy, but this is nothing for me to panic about,” Ten Hag stated in an interview with Sky Sports on Monday. “We can sort these problems out; this team has what it takes.” So far in the 2023-25 season, United has managed to secure only three victories out of nine matches across all competitions, defeating Fulham and Southampton in the league and League One’s Barnsley in the EFL Cup.

During his debut season in 2022-23, Ten Hag guided the Red Devils to a third-place finish in the Premier League, as well as winning the EFL Cup and finishing as runners-up in the FA Cup. Last season, however, saw the team slump to eighth place, marking their lowest-ever finish in the Premier League, although they ended on a high note by clinching the FA Cup with a victory over Manchester City.

Ten Hag received a new contract that extends to 2026 over the summer, and club chief executive Omar Berrada has assured that the manager has the full backing of the organization. “We created a sense of togetherness over the summer with the ownership and the leadership,” Ten Hag added. “We reached an agreement and everyone is united behind it. We are focused on bringing in young talent during this transition period.”

With an eye on the future, Ten Hag is determined to replicate his track record of success, noting that in all of his previous six seasons, he has consistently brought home trophies. The team now looks ahead to its upcoming match against Porto in the Europa League on Thursday, followed by a Premier League clash with Villa on Sunday, just before the October international break.
