President Bola Tinubu has approved the reappointment of Prof. Abdullahi Mustapha as Director-General of the National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency (NBRDA) for a second five-year term, demonstrating a commitment to advancing Nigeria’s biotechnology sector. This decision, announced by the NBRDA’s Press Secretary Toyin Omozuwa, emphasizes Tinubu’s trust in Mustapha’s leadership for spearheading scientific progress critical to the nation’s future.

In a letter signed by Secretary to the Government, George Akume, Mustapha’s new term is set to begin from October 31, 2024, in accordance with Sections 10 (1) and (3) of the National Biotechnology Development Agency (Establishment) Act, 2022. The reappointment is viewed by industry experts as a signal of the President’s faith in Mustapha’s capacity to drive innovation and support Nigeria’s vision for food security and self-sufficiency.
