The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has revealed that the Zamfara State office has recorded 93 complaints concerning domestic violence, family abandonment, illegal detentions, and harassment from various entities, both state and non-state.

During a press briefing in Gusau, the state capital, State Coordinator Abdullahi Abubakar highlighted the critical issues plaguing the region. He pointed out that persistent security threats and widespread poverty are key factors contributing to the increasing occurrences of domestic violence and human rights abuses.

Abubakar voiced particular concern for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), who are especially vulnerable and often exploited, with young women and children being the most affected. Many children in Zamfara find themselves abandoned due to their parents’ financial struggles, losing not only their homes but also access to education and stable livelihoods.
