Anna Sorokin’s Sparkling ‘Dancing with the Stars’ Debut: Ankle Monitor Steals the Show

Los Angeles (AP) — Notorious for her high-profile fraud, Anna Sorokin, also known as the ‘fake heiress’ Anna Delvey, made a dazzling entrance on the new season of “Dancing With the Stars.” Along with her glitzy ballroom outfit, one accessory stood out: a sparkly ankle monitor.
Sorokin, who gained infamy for conning banks, hotels, and friends by posing as a wealthy German heiress, debuted the sparkling ankle monitor on the dancefloor during Tuesday night’s season premiere. The stylish ankle piece accompanies her home confinement as she battles deportation, following her 2019 conviction.
“It’s actually not a big issue at all,” Sorokin told The Associated Press after her performance. “It’s light, and I asked them to make it tight so it doesn’t dangle. So, it’s not so bad.”

The attention-grabbing accessory became a talking point, with her dance partner, Ezra Sosa, chiming in. “Let’s be real—it’s the star of the show,” he joked, downplaying its impact. “It’s not like it weighs 20 pounds. It’s less than a pound, and not a big deal at all.”
Sorokin and Sosa performed their routine to Sabrina Carpenter’s song “Espresso,” but the outcome wasn’t as smooth as they hoped. “I feel relieved that it’s over,” Sorokin confessed. “I think my dance could have been better, but I’m glad I did it. It was an amazing experience overall.”
Despite her legal history, Sorokin expressed hope that viewers would give her a chance. “I served my time, repaid my restitution, and I hope people will judge me for what I can do now.”
However, early social media reactions weren’t favorable, with “Anna Delvey’s Lackluster DWTS Debut” trending on X (formerly Twitter).
Although Sorokin was released from prison in February 2021, her legal troubles continued. Immigration authorities detained her for overstaying her visa, leading to over a year in ICE custody before she was placed under home confinement in October 2022. Special amendments were made to her release conditions to allow her to travel to Los Angeles for the show.
