President Bola Tinubu and an array of Nigeria’s political leaders gathered on Monday to celebrate the 70th birthday of Pastor Tunde Bakare, Serving Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church. Held at The Citadel on Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun, Lagos, the birthday service saw Tinubu, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun commending Bakare’s unwavering influence as a political figure, spiritual leader, and advocate for national progress.

Represented by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, President Tinubu praised Bakare, saying, “We gather here to celebrate a true man of God.” He acknowledged Bakare’s life as a “beacon of hope,” reflecting passion, integrity, and a relentless dedication to justice. Tinubu highlighted Bakare’s decades-long service, applauding his honesty and commitment to transparency, which he noted has deeply inspired the nation.

“Pastor Bakare, fondly called P.T.B., is a voice for the voiceless,” said Tinubu. “His work as a spiritual leader, nation builder, and an unwavering advocate for truth has left an indelible mark on Nigerian society.”

In a statement delivered by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu commended Bakare’s contributions as a distinguished lawyer, pastor, author, and leader, noting his advocacy for good governance and pivotal role as co-convener of the Save Nigeria Group during key moments in Nigeria’s history.

Adding his voice to the celebration, Governor Sanwo-Olu described Bakare as both a father and mentor to Nigeria’s leaders. “You are a mentor and a vessel of God, standing up for fairness, equity, and justice,” said Sanwo-Olu. “We listen to you, and we are inspired by the powerful messages you share from the pulpit.”

Governor Abiodun echoed these sentiments, highlighting Bakare’s life as one marked by purpose and significance. “He has tirelessly championed social justice, peace, and national progress,” said Abiodun, emphasizing Bakare’s lasting influence beyond the walls of his church, extending throughout the nation.

The ceremony’s highlight included the unveiling of Bakare’s latest work, “The Last, But Definitely Not The Least – The Autobiography of Pastor Tunde Bakare,” an introspective look at his life’s journey. Addressing attendees, Bakare expressed heartfelt gratitude. “I am deeply grateful for your presence and for adding color to today’s celebration,” he said, urging Nigerians to prioritize national unity and growth.

In a passionate message to fellow Christians, Bakare encouraged believers to step into government roles as active participants in shaping the nation. “Every opportunity Christians have to step into government, step in there,” he urged. “Be the salt of the earth and the light of the world.”

The event attracted an impressive gathering of dignitaries, including former Ogun State Governors Ibikunle Amosun, Chief Olusegun Osoba, and Gbenga Daniel; former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai; former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi; and the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Aremu Gbadebo. Representatives of prominent traditional rulers and religious leaders, including Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, further added to the day’s significance.
