Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, widely known as Bobrisky, has made headlines after it was revealed that the Nigerian transgender woman only spent three weeks in Kirikiri Prison, despite receiving a six-month sentence for naira abuse back in April. This startling information comes from reports by FIJ.

On Tuesday, a social media personality named Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, released a recorded phone call in which Bobrisky disclosed that she completed her sentence outside of prison. She alleged that she paid N15 million to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to have charges related to money laundering dismissed.

This revelation has sparked renewed conversations about corruption within Nigerian prisons, leading Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo to demand a “comprehensive investigation into allegations of bribery and corruption within the Nigerian Correctional Service.”

Sources close to the situation informed FIJ that although Bobrisky was initially taken to Kirikiri in April, she was released after just three weeks, with her official release documented in August.

“GUARDED LIKE A PRESIDENT”

A prison official shared details, stating, “Bob spent only three weeks here with us in Kirikiri before she was taken to an unknown location. That’s where she completed her time; it was an ‘arrangee thing’, and money was involved.”

The official elaborated that Bobrisky received “presidential-level protection” during her short incarceration, enjoying VIP treatment throughout her stay. “She was housed in a special cell, and the amount she mentioned paying is indeed accurate,” the source confirmed.
