Borno State Sets New N70,000 Minimum Wage for Civil Servants

Babagana Zulum, the governor of Borno State, has officially announced the approval of a new minimum wage of N70,000 for civil servants in the region. This significant decision aims to enhance the living standards of government workers in Borno.

During a recent meeting with the technical committee responsible for implementing the national minimum wage in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno, Zulum also disclosed that N3 billion would be allocated as death benefits for the families of deceased civil servants. He emphasized that this initiative is part of his administration’s ongoing commitment to improve worker welfare and support families in need.

In his remarks while presenting a cheque to representatives from the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NU), Zulum reiterated the administration’s dedication to addressing the backlog of gratuities and increasing pensions for retirees.

This announcement follows the signing of the minimum wage bill into law by President Bola Tinubu on July 29, which raised the national minimum wage from N30,000 to N70,000. Additionally, in September, the federal government approved a review of the consolidated public service salary structure (CONPSS), further enhancing the financial stability of public workers across the country.
