The Kogi State government has officially approved a new minimum wage of N72,500 (Seventy-two thousand five hundred Naira) for civil servants and local government employees. Governor Usman Ododo made this announcement during a reception for the State Minimum Wage Committee’s report at the Government House banquet hall in Lokoja.

The governor emphasized that this decision fulfills a promise to better serve the people of Kogi State. He indicated that there would be consequential adjustments across all categories of workers, ensuring fair compensation for their services. In addition to the minimum wage increase, Ododo announced a one-year tax relief for all civil servants, a move that was met with enthusiastic applause.

“After thorough discussions and evaluations, we have jointly and graciously approved the sum of N72,500 as the minimum wage for all workers,” he stated. Ododo called on civil servants to commit to the current administration’s agenda, aimed at transforming the state positively.

Mr. Elijah Abenemi, Chairman of the Kogi State Minimum Wage Committee and Head of Service, shared that the committee was established on September 17, 2024, tasked with exploring the best modalities for implementing the new minimum wage. He noted that the committee engaged in constructive dialogue, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to securing the best outcomes for Kogi’s civil servants.
