Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has ordered a comprehensive review of the state’s e-governance platform after discovering that it is being operated from the backend by unknown non-state actors. This alarming revelation has raised concerns about the security and control of the platform.

In a statement released on November 25, 2024, the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ikhilor, confirmed that the platform, originally launched by the previous administration, is currently lacking administrative oversight from any official within the Edo State Public Service. This has led to serious concerns about the platform’s data security and its potential vulnerability to manipulation by external forces.

The review, according to the statement, aims to restore full control of the platform to the Edo State government and address the issue of institutional memory, which has been compromised by the current setup. While the review is underway, all officials and staff from various state ministries, departments, and agencies have been instructed to continue their work on the platform.

Governor Okpebholo emphasized the urgent need to address the situation, labeling it a “clear and present danger” to the state’s governance infrastructure. The administration is committed to regaining control and ensuring that the platform operates securely under the state’s supervision.
