Edo Health Commissioner Addresses Construction Issues at Stella Obasanjo Hospital

Edo State’s Commissioner for Health, Dr. Cyril Oshiomhole, has revealed that construction defects were discovered during an inspection of the newly remodeled Stella Obasanjo Hospital in Benin. Following the recent inauguration of the facility by former Governor Godwin Obaseki, Dr. Oshiomhole, alongside a team of medical experts and the project’s contractor, identified areas that required immediate attention.
On Monday, the team conducted a thorough inspection, where Dr. Oshiomhole explained that, while examining the facility, errors in construction were uncovered. He emphasized that a cooperative effort between the contractors, medical consultants, and himself has already been established to ensure the necessary corrections are made before the hospital begins operations.

“I visited the hospital to see firsthand what had been done, and we found some construction issues. We discussed the best ways to resolve these and agreed that the necessary fixes would be carried out before we proceed,” Dr. Oshiomhole stated. He also expressed his appreciation for the teamwork involved, noting that having specialists, including gynecologists, surgeons, and consultants, on hand has been instrumental in identifying and addressing the issues.
The health commissioner confirmed that both the contractor and the medical consultants are committed to making the required adjustments promptly, ensuring the hospital is ready for its intended purpose. The inspection was attended by notable officials, including the Permanent Secretary of the Hospital Management Agency, Dr. Efosa Aisien, and other key medical personnel.
