Elon Musk’s Transgender Daughter Vivian Wilson Announces Plans to Leave U.S. Following Trump’s 2024 Election Win

Vivian Wilson, the estranged transgender daughter of tech billionaire Elon Musk, has revealed her intent to leave the United States, citing Donald Trump’s recent election victory as the final factor in her decision. The 20-year-old, who has publicly distanced herself from her father, shared her thoughts on Threads, expressing deep concerns about the country’s political climate under Trump’s renewed leadership.
“I don’t see my future in the United States,” Wilson wrote, noting that her unease has been growing for some time but that Trump’s return to office confirmed her decision. “Even if anti-trans regulations don’t materialize, the people who voted for this aren’t going anywhere anytime soon,” she explained, adding that she feels a need to find a place more aligned with her values.
Vivian, originally born Xavier Musk in 2004, legally changed her name and gender in April 2022 and adopted her mother’s maiden name, Wilson, to further distance herself from Musk. In her court filings, she expressed her desire to fully sever ties, stating, “I no longer live with or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape, or form.”

Elon Musk has spoken publicly about the strained relationship between him and Vivian, referring to her as a “communist” who, he claims, views wealth with disdain. Musk has often linked his views on transgender identity with his daughter’s transition, alleging that he was “essentially tricked” into agreeing to Vivian’s use of puberty blockers. “I didn’t fully understand what was happening at the time,” Musk recalled, explaining that he was informed of the need for these medical steps during the COVID-19 lockdown, under warnings that she might self-harm otherwise.
The tech mogul has been vocal about his stance on puberty blockers, which he has called “sterilization drugs,” and criticized gender dysphoria, stating those who promote it should be held criminally responsible. “I lost my son,” Musk said, expressing his belief that the “woke mind virus” had taken his child away, alluding to his opposition to using Xavier, her birth name.
In response to Musk’s remarks, Vivian has shared that Musk was not involved in her upbringing and was dismissive of her “femininity and queerness.” She claims he reduced her to a stereotype, saying, “He doesn’t know what I was like as a child because he simply wasn’t there. I was relentlessly harassed for my femininity and queerness.”
