The federal government has officially handed over 64 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses to leaders from the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) as part of the celebrations for Nigeria’s 64th independence anniversary. This initiative is designed to alleviate transportation costs and combat inflation in the country, aligning with President Tinubu’s vision for affordable and efficient public transport following the removal of fuel subsidies.

Finance Minister Wale Edun highlighted the importance of these buses in making transportation more cost-effective, announcing plans for the nationwide distribution of over 500 CNG buses and 100 electric vehicles. The new CNG-powered buses are anticipated to reduce fuel expenses by up to two-thirds compared to petrol, with assurances from the government regarding the safety of the CNG cylinders.

Leaders from TUC, NANS, and NLC expressed their appreciation for the initiative, urging the government to consider providing even more CNG buses. They also praised the implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage and the government’s commitment to enhancing student welfare through a new loan scheme.
