Residents of Festac Town, Lagos, have filed a formal petition with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) following the alleged violation of a court order by officials of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA). The residents claim that FHA officials continue demolishing properties in the Festac Extension 6th Avenue area, despite a binding court injunction prohibiting such actions.

The petition, which was submitted by the residents’ lawyer, Mr. Adetayo Bello, names several FHA officials—including Zonal Manager Akintola Olagbenro, Chief Chuka Umenne, and Coach Sesi—as key figures involved in the alleged violations.

On September 11, 2023, the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja, led by Justice O. Awope, issued an injunction halting any demolitions in the Festac Town 6th Avenue area and other locations. This order remains in effect pending the outcome of case No: ID/7397GCM/2023.

The petitioners argue that the ongoing demolitions not only disregard the court’s authority but also represent an abuse of power. They are urging the Nigeria Police Force to investigate the FHA officials for contempt of court and prevent any further demolitions, ensuring the protection of residents’ properties and rights.
