The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has condemned the alleged extortion of N10 million by some officers within the Force, specifically those from the Zone 16 Zonal Headquarters in Yenagoa. The officers involved—ASP Emmanuel Ubong, Inspector Nse Okon, Inspector Adiewere Collins, and Inspector Kuromare Marine—are accused of extorting a significant sum from a group of young Nigerians.

Although the extorted money has been recovered, and the officers detained pending an orderly room trial, the IGP has reiterated the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering stance against corruption and misconduct. He emphasized that any officer found guilty, regardless of rank, would face severe consequences as part of efforts to deter future wrongdoers and uphold the integrity of the Force.

In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on November 8, the IGP underscored that the Nigeria Police Force takes all allegations of extortion and abuse of power seriously. He also assured the public that thorough investigations would continue, and any officer found culpable would face stringent penalties.

The IGP called on citizens to report any police misconduct through available channels, including dedicated helplines and social media platforms. These measures are part of the ongoing commitment to restore public trust and ensure that the Force remains accountable to the people it serves.
