Fire Devastates Lagos Spare Parts Market, Traders Face Huge Losses

Massive fire ravaged several buildings at a spare parts market in the Idumota area of Lagos, causing significant damage to goods worth millions of naira. The blaze, which broke out on Friday night, affected multiple shops that sold car spare parts, leaving traders facing severe financial losses.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) responded swiftly to the emergency after distress calls were received at 10:20 PM. Teams from Lekki, Cappa, and the Alausa Command and Control Centre were dispatched to the scene, arriving at 10:55 PM. Upon their arrival, they discovered that numerous shops were completely engulfed in flames.

While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, early reports indicate that the damage to the market’s property and stock was extensive, amounting to hundreds of millions of naira. Despite the significant destruction, LASEMA’s fire response teams, supported by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Federal Fire Service, managed to control the blaze, preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings.

Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported from the incident. Efforts to extinguish the remaining pockets of fire are still underway, and recovery teams are working to salvage valuable goods from the affected shops. Authorities continue to investigate the fire’s origin while coordinating recovery operations at the scene.
