The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has reported a significant response to emergencies, handling 1,367 incidents from January to October 2024. Mr. Nosa Okunbor, Head of Public Affairs at LASEMA, revealed the figures in a statement on Monday, outlining the agency’s swift action in responding to various incidents across the state.

LASEMA’s efforts spanned multiple emergency types throughout the year, with road traffic accidents emerging as the most frequent. In total, the agency recorded 50 vehicular incidents, followed by 43 cases involving trucks and tankers, including 35 accidents and 8 breakdowns. Medical emergencies also made up a significant portion of the calls, with 20 cases recorded. In addition, 17 fire-related emergencies, including 16 fire outbreaks and one burnt vehicle, were addressed.

The agency’s response was widespread, with various local governments seeing varying levels of incidents. Alimosho Local Government Area had the highest number, recording 29 of the 147 total incidents in October. Other areas such as Oshodi-Isolo, Ikeja, and Kosofe followed closely behind, with 20, 18, and 14 incidents, respectively.

Since June 2019, LASEMA has responded to a total of 7,809 incidents, demonstrating the agency’s critical role in managing emergencies across Lagos State. With the continued efforts of LASEMA, the agency remains committed to improving public safety and responding swiftly to any emergencies within the region.
