Governor Siminalayi Fubara has solidified his position as a distinguished leader, according to Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, Senator Bala Mohammed. Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of 23 newly elected local government chairmen in Rivers State, Mohammed emphasized that Fubara’s actions have not only deepened democracy but also showcased his commitment to inclusive governance.

Highlighting the challenges Fubara faced, Mohammed noted that the Rivers State governor demonstrated strong democratic instincts by making strategic decisions that prioritize governance over party allegiance. He commended Fubara’s ability to lead with an open mind and foster collaboration across party lines, a rare approach in Nigerian politics.

Mohammed’s remarks came in Port Harcourt during a ceremony on Sunday evening, where he stressed that Rivers State remains a PDP stronghold despite the inclusion of elected officials from various political parties at the local government level. “Governor Fubara is still a devoted PDP member, and his democratic approach to governance sets a new precedent,” said Mohammed.

Fubara’s leadership, he explained, allows other political parties to participate in the governance process, ensuring there is no political vacuum at the local level. This, according to Mohammed, reflects Fubara’s commitment to democracy and strengthens the political landscape in Nigeria.

“A governor is the Chief Executive of the state. He can influence significant changes and create opportunities for collaboration, which is why undermining Governor Fubara’s office is unacceptable,” Mohammed added, emphasizing the importance of governors in the Nigerian political structure.

Reflecting on his own experience, Mohammed shared how, in 2019, he faced a similar situation where his party held a minority in the state assembly but successfully navigated the challenges, just as Fubara is doing now. This resilience, Mohammed believes, elevates Fubara as a model for democratic governance in Nigeria.

As the PDP faces internal challenges, Mohammed assured that reconciliation efforts are underway to restore unity within the party. He expressed optimism about healing the rift with former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, noting that the party’s governors stand firmly with Fubara as they work toward lasting resolution.
