Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara firmly asserted that his administration will not yield to blackmail from any individual or group, emphasizing his dedication to good governance and the state’s advancement. He made this declaration during the 64th Nigerian Independence Day Anniversary Parade at the Government House Arcade in Port Harcourt.

During the event, Fubara expressed gratitude for President Bola Tinubu’s “bold and pragmatic” economic reforms aimed at tackling Nigeria’s structural issues and promoting long-term growth and prosperity. Reflecting on the historical significance of Nigeria’s independence, he noted, “October 1st, 1960, is etched in our history, with Nigeria’s first Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, raising the cherished green-white-green flag, marking our independence from British colonial rule.” He recognized the sacrifices made by numerous leaders over the years to uphold the nation’s unity and freedom.

Despite acknowledging Nigeria’s ongoing struggles with insecurity and economic hardship after 64 years of independence, Fubara encouraged a sense of celebration. He remarked on Nigeria’s global reputation for resilience, cultural diversity, and resourcefulness, urging citizens to appreciate their heritage while striving for a peaceful and prosperous nation.

Fubara called upon Nigerians to embrace the vision of the nation’s founding fathers by promoting unity, peace, and justice. He highlighted the necessity for collaboration between citizens and the federal government to address political and economic issues, including corruption and insecurity. “Only through our collective efforts can Nigeria realize its true potential and emerge as a global leader,” he emphasized.

The governor praised President Tinubu for his commitment to economic reforms and urged fellow governors to intensify their fight against insecurity, banditry, and oil theft, particularly in the Niger Delta region. He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to enhancing infrastructure, education, and healthcare in Rivers State, pointing to ongoing projects like the Port Harcourt Ring Road, the Trans-Kalabari Road, and the rehabilitation of schools and hospitals.
