Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has pledged to further support the industrial development of the state, ensuring job creation and economic prosperity. Speaking at the 39th Annual General Meeting of the Ogun State branch of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) on November 13, 2024, Abiodun reiterated that his administration will maintain an environment that encourages business growth, recognizing Ogun as Nigeria’s industrial capital.

Represented by the Commissioner for Industry, Trade, and Investment, Mr. Adebola Sofela, the governor emphasized the administration’s ongoing commitment to policies that attract investors and expand opportunities for local businesses. “We remain focused on building an enabling environment for businesses to thrive, with a strong commitment to industrialisation as a driver for prosperity in Ogun,” Abiodun stated.

In his address, Abiodun highlighted the critical infrastructure developments currently underway, such as the construction of the Abeokuta-Ota Expressway and upgrades to the Atan/Agbara-Lusada roads, which will enhance connectivity and economic activity. These projects, along with ongoing improvements in road networks, are expected to boost the state’s productivity and industrial output.

The governor also discussed the steps being taken to address taxation concerns, revealing the establishment of a committee to streamline taxes and reduce multiple levies. Furthermore, he referenced the recent passage of the Power Sector Reform Bill by the Ogun State House of Assembly, reflecting the government’s proactive stance on resolving power issues crucial to industrial growth.

Abiodun stressed the importance of peace and security in fostering business growth, noting that the administration’s collaboration with security agencies has contributed to Ogun’s current status as a safe environment for investment. “Only when local businesses thrive will we see the foreign investment that will take us to the next level,” he said.

In his remarks, the President of MAN, Francis Meshioye, praised the government’s ongoing support for the manufacturing sector and expressed optimism that the continued partnership between the state and the association would lead to further economic advancements. He also urged the state government to adopt President Bola Tinubu’s Executive Order, aimed at promoting the purchase of locally made goods in Nigeria.

Mr. George Onafowokan, Chairman of MAN’s Ogun State Branch, raised concerns over the impact of the depreciating Naira on the manufacturing sector, linking it to rising inflation. He emphasized that while the government’s efforts have been commendable, more needs to be done to create an environment that supports manufacturers in driving job creation and economic development.
