Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has expressed profound sadness over the passing of Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, calling it “a huge misfortune” for Osun State, the Nigerian Army, and the Lagbaja family of Ilobu. The governor extended heartfelt condolences to President Bola Tinubu, the Nigerian military, and the bereaved family in a statement issued on Wednesday.

Describing the late army chief as a hardworking officer, Adeleke emphasized Lagbaja’s commitment to modernizing the Nigerian Army and his role in reinforcing professionalism within the military. The governor highlighted the late general’s ambitious vision for operational reforms and his unwavering stance against terrorism and banditry.

Adeleke recalled his last interaction with Lt. Gen. Lagbaja, noting that it reflected the general’s dedication to building a stronger, united Nigeria. “In General Lagbaja, we had a leader with the poise and firmness to realize the vision of a new Nigerian Army,” he stated.

While the governor lamented the sudden loss, he acknowledged the inevitability of death and prayed for the soul of the departed. He also extended condolences to Mrs. Mariya Lagbaja and their children, reaffirming that Osun State shares in the grief of the Lagbaja family during this difficult time.
