Governor Fubara Promises Justice for Arson Attacks on Local Government Secretariats

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has pledged to bring those responsible for the recent arson attacks on local government secretariats to justice. This commitment was made during the swearing-in ceremony of four new commissioners at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
The secretariats located in Ikwerre, Emohua, and Eleme Local Government Areas were set ablaze by suspected political thugs, causing significant damage. Governor Fubara emphasized his administration’s resolve to work closely with the Nigerian Police Force and the Department of State Services to identify and prosecute the individuals behind these violent acts.

“We will not stand by as political thugs disrupt the peace in Rivers State. Those responsible for these attacks will be held accountable,” Fubara declared.
His comments come in the wake of recent intelligence reports suggesting a scheme by certain individuals to obstruct newly elected council chairmen from taking office. Fubara noted that the recent arson incidents reflect this concerning trend.
“I warned about this before it occurred. The individuals behind these actions are dissatisfied and have resorted to extreme measures to incite division among our people. However, we will not let them escape justice. We will partner with security agencies to find those responsible,” he stated.
In addition, Fubara praised the people of Rivers State for their patience and composure in response to the attacks, which have understandably stirred public anger. He called on citizens to avoid resorting to violence, underscoring the importance of peace and unity.
“As your leader, I promise to guide you wisely. We must maintain peace, even in our anger. Responding to violence with more violence will only lead to greater losses for us all,” he cautioned.
