Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has announced a significant reshuffle within the Nigerian Police Force, redeploying key police commissioners to enhance operational effectiveness across various states.

Key Redeployments Announced

  • Tunji Disu, previously the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, has been appointed the new Commissioner for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
  • Abaniwonda Olufemi, the outgoing Delta State Police Commissioner, will now lead the Rivers State Command.
  • Peter Opara, who served as the FCT Commissioner, has been reassigned to the Delta State Command.

Force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi confirmed these changes, stating that they are part of efforts to ensure more effective policing in the affected areas. “The Inspector-General of Police, in an effort to strategically emplace a Police Force well efficient for effective policing, has ordered the immediate redeployment of the Commissioners of Police of Rivers State Command, Delta State Command, and the Federal Capital Territory,” he explained.

Additional Appointments
Egbetokun also authorized the deployment of four new Commissioners of Police to other states, including:

  • Danladi Nda to Abia State Command
  • Olanrewaju Olawale to Lagos State Command
  • Anthonia Adaku Uche-Anya, FDC to Ebonyi State Command
  • Festus Eribo to Akwa Ibom State Command

These appointments align with the Inspector General’s vision to strategically reposition the police force for better service delivery.

Focus on Innovation and Diligence
In his remarks, Adejobi emphasized the importance of diligence and innovation among the new commissioners. The Inspector General has urged them to adopt proactive measures to tackle security challenges within their jurisdictions. He stated, “The IGP has urged the new CPs of state commands to ensure diligence in the discharge of their lawful duties and adopt innovations that could mitigate security challenges in their respective areas of responsibility.”
