In a show of respect for the late Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has announced the suspension of all non-essential personal and social activities for the next two days. This decision follows the confirmation of General Lagbaja’s death by the presidency on Wednesday morning. The respected military leader had been absent for some time due to an undisclosed illness.

A statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the army chief, noting his relentless commitment to combating insurgency, banditry, and violent extremism throughout his distinguished career.

The statement read:
“The Nigeria Police Force is profoundly saddened by the sudden death of Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja on November 5, 2024. In honor of his service, the Inspector General of Police has canceled all non-essential personal and social engagements, as well as non-urgent commitments, for the next two days.”

General Lagbaja was widely admired for his tireless efforts to safeguard the nation against security threats. His dedication to the Nigerian Army and to national security earned him respect from both his peers and the general public. The IGP’s decision to suspend activities reflects the deep respect and gratitude for his outstanding contributions.

The Nigeria Police Force has also extended heartfelt condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, as well as to General Lagbaja’s family, colleagues, and loved ones during this challenging time. “His legacy and contributions to Nigeria’s security will forever be remembered,” the statement concluded.
